Govt depts should settle fines of drivers on duty, says Cuepacs

SHAH ALAM: Civil servants who are on duty are not exempt from saman ekor but summonses issued to them should be settled by the departments, said Cuepacs president Datuk Omar Osman.

He reasoned that it was unfair to expect the drivers to pay as they were merely following instructions of their superiors.

He said drivers of official government vehicles only sped if they were instructed to do so or if they were in an emergency.

Omar said he had received complaints from various government agencies on this but acknowledged that some departments settled their drivers' summonses.

“But some departments may have no budget and ask them (the civil servants) to settle the summonses themselves,” he said.
