New Act allows action against Mat Rempits on private roads

PETALING JAYA: The long arm of the law will now be able to reach further against Mat Rempit daredevils.
They can now be caught and punished even if they try to evade enforcement detection by creating havoc on private roads.
The recently amended Road Transport Act provides Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers with enforcement powers on private roads.
JPJ director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said his officers could now take action against careless motorists, including Mat Rempits on these roads – which included privately-built kampung roads, parking lots at shopping malls and roads built by housing developers.
