Used parts dealers to discuss list of banned items with Miti

KUALA LUMPUR: Used car spare parts dealers will meet International Trade and Trade Industry Ministry (Miti) officials on Jan 18 to discuss the list of items that will be banned from being imported from June 1.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said the proposed move to ban the items would create an impact on the industry involving 5,000 dealers and 100,000 workers that had a turnover of RM1bil.

The dealers proposed that the ban only involved brakes, steering and suspension units.

Dr Chua said he had raised the matter with the National Economic Council, conveying the wish of the dealers that the ban should be on a selective basis and not a total ban on all used spare parts, adding that Miti had agreed to meet the dealers.
