ALOR GAJAH: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will have the power to take action against traffic offenders on all roads in the country once changes made in Parliament to the Transport Act is gazzeted.

Пробки в МосквеImage via WikipediaJPJ Deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Ahmad said currently JPJ could only take action on traffic offenders in highways, federal roads, state roads and municipal roads.

But with the changes, the JPJ could go after errant motorists in places like farms, recreational areas, villages and residential areas.

Ismail said the traffic enforcement rule change was made in the Road Transport Act 1987, and was passed by Parliament on Dec 22.

On another matter, he said recent amendments to the Road Transport Act 1987 required vehicle owners who changed their address to give a two-week notice to the JPJ - failing which, legal action could be take towards them, including a fine of up to RM300
