Housewife dies, 7 hurt in bus-lorry crash

KOTA TINGGI: A 25-year-old bus passenger was killed and seven others injured when the vehicle was involved in a collision with a trailer lorry at Km25.5 Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing on Saturday.

Nor Haziena Sulaiman, who was seated behind the driver, was killed on the spot in the 8.40pm incident.

Her husband, Saiful Arhan, also 25, survived the accident.

Nor Hazieana, a housewife from Felda Air Tawar 2, had followed her van driver husband to Desa Cemerlang, Johor Baru. They were among 30 passengers in the factory bus that was ferrying workers back to Kota Tinggi.

District police chief Superintendent Osman Muhammad Sebot said the incident occurred when the lorry strayed into the path of the bus.

As the vehicles tried to avoid each other, the trailer grazed the side of the bus.

"The incident occurred at a bend in the road," said Osman.

At least two of the seven injured passengers were transferred from Kota Tinggi Hospital to Sultan Ismail Hospital in Johor Baru for further treatment. All the survivors are reported to be in stable condition. It is learnt that the lorry driver and his attendant fled the scene following the incident.
