JPJ clamps down on buses

From TheStar:-
KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is clamping down on commercial vehicle owners who have not sent their vehicles for mandatory scheduled inspection at Puspakom.

Its director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said it was worrying because if these vehicles, particularly buses, were not sent for scheduled inspection, they were likely to be unsafe and not road-worthy.

He said according to JPJ’s records, 4,111 or 31% of the 13,242 public buses had not been sent for checks last year as required every six months.

Since May 21, 2009, a total of 40,244 commercial vehicles of various categories did not undergo scheduled checks at Puspakom.

Currently, there are 900,000 registered commercial vehicles in the country, including lorries and taxis.
