Gawkers at accident scenes can be issued summonses

KUALA LUMPUR: Drivers who stop their vehicles to gawk at accident scenes can be issued summonses, said Road Safety Department (JKJR) director-general Datuk Suret Singh.

He said only five parties had a role to play in the event of road accidents, namely witnesses, rescuers, government agencies that had an interest, interested non-governmental organisations and members of the public who have been trained to be first responders.

"Others should not stop as this only leads to unnecessary jams at the scene and also poses safety risks like causing minor accidents to happen.
