Two cycling teenagers killed, another injured when van rams them

JOHOR BAHARU: Two teenagers were killed and another seriously injured when they were rammed by a van while riding their bicycles in Jalan Muar-Batu Pahat, early Monday.

Muar police chief ACP Mohamad Nasir Ramli said in the 4.30am incident, the three in a group of nine youngsters were cycling in a convoy towards the Batu Pahat Wet World theme park.

On reaching in front of the Sungai Balang penghulu complex, they were suddenly hit by the vehicle coming from Parit Jawa, Muar, causing the victims and their friends to be thrown off their bicycles, he said.

"The victims were identified as Mohd Sufi Johari, 15, and Mohd Amirul Nizam Awang Nudin, 17. Mohd Sufi died on the spot and Mohd Amirul Nizam at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital at 11am," Mohamad Nasir said when contacted.

He said the seriously injured teenager, who had not been identified, was admitted to the same hospital.
The six others who suffered minor injuries were given out-patient treatment, he said, adding that the driver of the van had lodged a report at the Muar district police headquarters and was detained.

Police are calling on eye-witnesses to contact Inspector Rahman Remi at 06-9526222 to assist in the investigation. - Bernama
